The Traditional King of Asaba, who is the 13th Asagba of Asaba in Delta State, His Royal Majesty, Joseph Chike Edozien, CFR, JP, is dead

According to reports, the traditional ruler died on Wednesday Febraury 7

Born on July 28, 1925 in Asaba to the famous family of Edozien, who were said to be the direct descendants of Nnebisi the founder of Asaba.

News of the monarch death filtered into the streets of Asaba on Wednesday with residents of the state capital describing his death as a great loss to the entire Asaba kingdom.
Although the palace was yet to officially announce the passage of the revered monarch, several sources confirmed the sad news to Ekweanaedo.
His Royal Majesty was elected as Chairman, Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers in 1997

The then Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo conferred the national honour of Commander of the Federal Republic on him in 2003.

He was also the Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

He was the first Black-African indigenous dean of medicine in a foreign land, royal father of Asaba clan Delta State, Prof. Edozien also earned numerous awards and Status.

A major challenge of Obi Edozien’s tenure as the Asagba was balancing of rapid development, modernization of traditional norms and institutions with preservation of the positive aspects and moderating influence of traditional values.
