The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, has expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi following the tragic death of Rev. Fr. Tobias Okonkwo, who was killed by unknown assailants last night.
Barrister Ezeokenwa, in his statement, described the killing as a heinous and senseless act that has not only robbed the Church of a devout priest but has also plunged the entire community into mourning.
“On behalf of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, I commiserate with the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Most Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye, the clergy, and the entire Catholic and Christian communities who are grieving this tragic loss. Rev. Fr. Tobias Okonkwo was a man of profound faith, a shepherd devoted to the service of God and humanity. His untimely death is deeply painful and utterly condemnable,” Barrister Ezeokenwa said.
Barrister Ezeokenwa called on security agencies to intensify efforts to investigate and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice. He also urged communities to remain vigilant and prayerful in the face of this tragedy.
The APGA National Chairman prayed for the peaceful repose of Rev. Fr. Okonkwo’s soul and for God’s comfort upon the grieving Diocese, the Christian faithful, and the family he left behind.
“May we all find strength in the Lord to overcome this trying time and continue to honor the legacy of peace and service that Rev. Fr. Tobias Okonkwo embodied,” he concluded.
