Sharing is caring

The purported reinstated council chairmen and councillors of All Progressives Congress(APC) have taken 26 local government areas of Osun State on Wednesday to enforce the Court of Appeal judgment.

As of the time of filing this report, the reinstated Chairmen and councillors took control of their prospective councils except four local Government areas including Osogbo, Ede South, Ede North and Irewole Local Governments.

The chairmen took over Boripe, Boluwaduro, Ila, Ola-Oluwa, Ifelodun, Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Olorunda, Ede-South, Ede North and Odo-Otin.

It was gathered that members of APC had mobilised according to the Federal Constituency to take over the councils across the state.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of APC, Chief Kola Olabisi confirmed that, “As at 2PM today, we have taken over 26 councils. Our chairmen have issued a warning to local government workers to resume duties.”

Subsequently, the State Secretary of APC, Kamorudeen Alao confirmed that “We have taken over all the 30 local government areas of Osun State. We took over peacefully no fight, no violence.”

Amidst the APC taking over councils, the Speaker of Osun State Assembly, Adewale Egbedun kicked and berated the role of security operatives in taking over the LGAs.

He said “This crisis stems from a coordinated, illegal attempt to forcefully seize control of our local government councils by individuals who have no legal or constitutional right to those offices.

“Today, members of the opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC), forcefully broke into local government secretariats across the state. This unlawful invasion is not only a direct attack on our democratic institutions but also a clear violation of the rule of law and a threat to public peace and order.”

Meanwhile, the state chairman of people’s Democratic Party PDP Hon Bisi Sunday has accused inspector General of police Mr Kayode Egbetokun of gross impartiality in the crisis.

He said the deployment of armed policemen to Osun State by IGP is a ploy to unlawful arrest and kill members of the ruling party that have remain law-abiding.

PDP chairman made the allegations during a world press conference he addressed at the Party’s headquartered in Osogbo, the state capital.

The PDP boss revealed that no fewer than 10 members of his party have been reportedly killed in less than 48 hours adding that the situation is causing panic amongst the residents of the state.

His words “we are all aware, Osun State has has been thrown into the cloudy side of the news in recent days, no thanks to the surreptitious activities of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to destabilise the state with orchestrated violence obviously hatched in active connivance of his office and the Opposition All Progressives Congress, banking on a non-existent court order as being brandished by the defeated Apc in the state.

“Mr Egbetokun’s deliberate deployment of Special Forces under him to escort some miscreants into the local government councils in the state was nothing but a blatant coup and obviously one out of the many mapped out plans to assassinate the Governor of our dear State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, whose instruction to restore peace and order as the Chief Security Officer of Osun State, was flagrantly violated by Mr Egbetokun.
