Chairman PGF, Hope Uzodimma addressing the press after its meeting in Abuja
The Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), representing serving All Progressives Congress (APC) state governors, has called on Nigerians to exercise patience regarding the corruption allegations against Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, PGF’s chairperson, emphasized the need to await the outcome of the ongoing Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigations during a press briefing in Abuja. He highlighted the importance of allowing due process before drawing conclusions on the allegations.
President Bola Tinubu suspended Ms Edu on Monday following the revelation of questionable financial contracts and payments, including a leaked memo showing a N585 million social intervention funds transfer to a civil servant’s private account.
Governor Uzodinma emphasized that the government’s role is to encourage good actions and appointees while discouraging the opposite. He affirmed that the investigation would conclude before any final decisions are made.
In addition to addressing the Edu case, Governor Uzodinma expressed the PGF’s commitment to implementing President Tinubu’s policies at the grassroots level and ensuring better welfare for Nigerians.
The governors vowed to support the president and maximize the benefits of his policies.
Regarding national security, Governor Uzodinma assured that the governors were resolute in securing the country. He stated, “We are united in ensuring that we take his [President Tinubu’s] policies to the grassroots.”
Looking ahead to off-season elections in Ondo and Edo states slated for November, Governor Uzodinma affirmed the APC’s readiness to participate, emphasizing the party’s preparedness for any election at any time.
