Anambra governor’s wife and founder of the non-governmental crusade, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, Mrs Nonye Soludo has begun plans to establish Healthy Living Pad Banks in tertiary institutions in the state.
Mrs Nonye who disclosed this while donating sanitary pads to female undergraduates of Faculty of Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka at the NGO’s headquarters in Awka, explained that the ultimate goal is to raise personal hygiene consciousness and support improved sanitary health among university females.
She explained that with the pad banks already established in secondary schools in the state, it is essential to have them also in other institutions where girls can easily have access to them.
The governor’s wife further noted that part of the visions of her healthy living crusade is to tackle problems of hygiene and nutrition, adding that the pad bank project is a long term goal that has been designed to achieve huge results. The pad bank initiative was recently launched by Anambra governor’s wife through her NGO, with an intention of tackling cases of menstrual emergencies in schools, promoting menstrual hygiene among students and protecting the dignity of the girl child.
The pad banks are currently operating in over 400 secondary schools in Anambra State, where the healthy living clubs have been established.
