The Anambra State Government’s enforcement agency, Operation Clean And Health Anambra (OCHA Brigade), is facing fresh allegations of misconduct. This comes after previous accusations of illegal arrest, extortion, and abuse of human rights.
The latest accusation comes from a staff member at Milani Cosmetics in Awka, who had a distressing encounter with OCHA Brigade operatives over the weekend. Additionally, another resident of the state has come forward with a similar complaint against the agency.
According to the resident, OCHA Brigade staff and armed individuals entered his office in a popular plaza in Awka, mistaking him for the plaza manager. Despite his attempts to explain that he was just a shop owner, they forcibly took him to a gutter area within the premises. Despite his pleas for release and lack of prior notice, they did not listen.
A viral social media video obtained by the Milani Cosmetics staff corroborates their claims. The allegations raise concerns about the agency’s actions and their alignment with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision for a prosperous Anambra State.
The state government and relevant authorities should thoroughly investigate these allegations to ensure accountability and protect the rights of the residents.”
