As Anambra State government through the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Awka is set to fix collapsed portion of Sakamori at Ogbaru Main Market, the President General of the Market, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu on behalf of the traders including Board of Trustees ( BOT), Patrons, members of the executive, sectional heads and line Chairmen felicitated Professor Charles Soludo in his response by approving the reconstruction of the damaged Sakamori.
The damaged Sakamori which was said to have occurred a couple of years ago beginning from the Upper Iweka axis and connecting with Ezeiweka in Awada, Owerri Road and passing behind the Ogbaru Main Market fence down to Niger Bridge Head has destroyed multiple traders shops in the market.
Conducting round newsmen at the collapsed Sakamori site, the President General of the market, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu said: “Having seen the sign post belonging to Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Awka mounted and some Sakamori slabs molded, it has shown us that the reconstruction of the Sakamori would be a reality.
”So, I am so delighted that Mr Governor has proven that he has a listening ear to the plight of traders at Ogbaru Main Market. We have spent a lot of funds in an attempt to curb the erosion emanating from the damaged Sakamori coming inside the market but it yielded nothing which prompted us to begin to seek for assistance from relevant authorities including State government to rescue us.
“Therefore, God has answered our prayers through Governor Soludo who has committed to the betterment of Ndi Anambra especially traders. I thank him so much on behalf of the entire traders, at least, there is an element of hope that soonest, the Sakamori would be completely fixed.
“When it is reconstructed, more shops would be available which would definitely increase the revenue base of the State government. So, it would be an added advantage to both the traders and State government. Our joy would be completed when the site Engineer starts mounting slabs on the Sakamori, ”Chief Ochiogu said.
Chief Ochiogu further disclosed that they had provided conducive accommodation for the site workers since they are working day and night which he said would make the reconstruction job fast.
