Anambra State Government To Ensure Judicious Use Of TETFUND

Anambra State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the prudent and impactful utilization of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND allocations in the state’s public tertiary institutions.

Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo gave the assurance through his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim when members of House of Representatives Committee on TETFUND and Other Services paid him a visit at the Government House, Awka.

Governor Soludo who noted that TETFUND allocation goes a long way in bring to bare the government’s vision of enhancing educational infrastructure, improving teaching and learning conditions, and supporting research and staff development in tertiary institutions in the state, emphasized government’s zero-tolerance for mismanagement of funds.

He pledged to monitor the implementation of TETFUND projects to ensure they meet the desired standards and objectives.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee, Honourable Miriam Onuoha, explained that the committee has chosen to intervene in the delays usually experienced in the disbursement of TETFUND allocations which hinders the kick-off of new projects and completion of ongoing ones which defeats the purpose of the fund.

She further explained that their intervention follows an alert the committee received that tertiary institutions in the South East Zone are not fully accessing their TETFUND allocations which maybe occasioned by stringent conditions attached in accessing the funds and some other factors which are beyond the control of the tertiary institutions.

Honourable Onuoha commended Governor Soludo for the free education policy of his administration and promised that the committee will make sure that all TETFUND allocations that is due to Anambra tertiary institutions get to them without delay.

In separate interviews, Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, and the Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Kate Omenugha expressed excitement on the level of commitment being shown by members of the committee to ensuring that the tertiary institutions in South East especially Anambra State benefit from the TETFUND allocations seamlessly, saying that with the help of the committee there will be improvement in accessing of the outstanding and fresh funds from TETFUND.
