It has been reported that at least four vigilante operatives were feared dead today and two others seriously injured during unprovoked attacks at Ekeagu Abatete, Idemili North Local Government and Ukpo Junction, Dunukofia local government areas of Anambra State by the unidentified gunmen.
This was contained in a press statement issue to Journalists in Awka by the Police Public Relations officer, Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in respect of the horrendous attacks on the unsuspected general public and vigilante personnel in the state.
According to the statement, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, had vowed that the command will do everything within its powers to fish out the criminals that mastered the murder of the four vigilante operatives and left two others seriously injured during the two notorious operations in the area
The statement, further maintained that the armed men, who unleased the glory attack on the victims at 8:45 am today were operating with unregistered Lexus 330 SUV and Honda FJ cruiser SUV at Ekeagu Abatete and murdered three members of vigilantes, injured another unsuspected member of the public as well.
“At Ukpo Junction, Dunukofia local government area, the criminals who were trying to escape following a hot chase by the police responding team in the area, shot and killed another vigilante operative while another person was injured and two vehicles set ablaze.
“Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been recovered, while the injured persons are currently receiving treatment at a near by hospital in the area,” the statement read.
However, the Police Commissioner, Itam, has consoled the bereaved families, friends, communities of the deceased and Anambra State Government, assuring that the state command will leave no stone unturned untill those behind the barbaric act are arrested
and justice done.
