Anambra: Lawyers observe Valedictory Court Session For Slain Colleague

The Anambra State lawyers have converged at Nnewi High Court for a valedictory court session of their murdered colleague, the late Barr. Peter Awa.

Late Barr. Awa hailed from Umuohi village Okija in Ihiala Local Government Area.

He was gruesomely murdered on May 19, 2024 at his home town by some unknown persons.

The Presiding Hon. Justice, V. N. Agbata of High Court 1, Nnewi who is also the Admin Judge, Nnewi Judicial Division in his speech said that the late Barr. Awa was a very bright lawyer and prayed his soul to rest in peace.

The late Barr. Awa attended Community Primary School, Umuohi Okija. He had his Secondary School Education at the Holy Ghost Juniorate, Ihiala and spent his University days at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University where he read Law and graduated in 2010.

He went to Law School in Abuja and was called to bar in 2012

During his University days, he became the first Senate President of the Student Union of his School.

Barr. Awa worked with some Law firms like, E. E. Ebenaonu and Co, the O. J. Nnadi (SAN) and with G. C. Chikelue and Co.

He joined the Ministry of Justice Anambra State as a State Council in December, 2013 and was posted to Nnewi Zonal Office of the Ministry.

Barr. Awa did exceptionally well and rose to the post of Assistant Chief State Counsel before his untimely death.

He was a Knight of St. Mulumba (KSM).

Late Barr. Peter Awa was married to Barr. Chioma and they were blessed with Children.

He was the Secretary, Okija Improvement Union, Intelligent, Socialite and full of humour.

Speaking in her address, the Hon. Attorney General of the State and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Sylvia Ifemeje, represented by Head of Chambers, Barr. Chinwe Okonkwo emphasized that the world is a stage where no mortal is in control.

She maintained that the death of late Barr. Awa is Painful.

Some of the Judges in attendance were Hon. Justice V. N. Agbata of the High Court Nnewi, Hon. Justice Okoye of the High Court 1 Ihiala, Hon. Justice Mbonu Nwenyi of the High Court 2 Ihiala and Hon. Justice Nweze of the High Court 1 Onitsha.
