The Anambra State Commissioner for Health; Dr. Afam Ben Obidike, carried out a routine, unannounced supervision visit to the Okpuno Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Awka South Local Government Area on Tuesday evening.
Dr. Obidike arrived at the facility around 6:30 pm and observed healthcare workers in action, attending to patients, mostly children. His surprise visit allowed him to gather first-hand information on the operations of the centre and the care being provided.
“I observed the health workers attending to their patients without any prior knowledge of my visit,” Dr. Obidike said. He engaged with some of the patients who had received care and commend the staff for their dedication to duty.
According to him, this visit is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the provision of optimal and efficient healthcare services across the state.
The Commissioner also offered consultations to some of the patients and expressed appreciation for the patience and good conduct of their relatives while waiting for care.
“I must commend the officer in charge and other healthcare workers for their professionalism and commitment to our vision of delivering quality healthcare services to all residents,” he added.
The visit concluded at 7:40 pm, with Mrs. Stella Okeke, the Officer in charge of the PHC, expressing gratitude to Dr. Obidike for his visit and ongoing support.
On behalf of the healthcare workers at the centre, Mrs. Okeke thanked Governor Prof. Charles Soludo for the recent upgrades in the facility, which includes solar lights, a functional borehole and telemedicine services.
She assured the Commissioner of their continued dedication to providing quality healthcare to the community.
