The Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Mrs. Ify Obinabo has cleared the air over the stories and reactions trailing the actions of a young lady who allegedly started acting strange after she was allegedly dropped from a vehicle by unidentified persons in Awka, the capital city of the state.

Recall that a video recently started trending on different social media platforms, showing a lady who was said to be “acting strange” and “misbehaving” at the popular Aroma Junction in Awka.

The unidentified lady, as was captured in the video, was seen shoutingly and unwarrantedly addressing passersby with words that didn’t match and in a way that appeared strange to them, hence creating a scene, as people gradually gathered to watch and video her.

Sources and background voices in the video alleged that the lady “started behaving that way” immediately after she was dropped from an unidentified vehicle.

Further reactions from netizens opined that the lady might have been diabolically “used for sacrifice” or money ritual by the people who dropped her, whom many also suspected to be the flamboyant and diabolic internet fraudsters, popularly “Yahoo Boys” or “G-Guys”.

“One girl down, one Benz up,” a netizen wrote in one of the comment sections on social media, in reaction to the viral video of the Lady as the news continued to circulate.

However, when contacted by this reporter, Izunna Okafor, for her reactions to the incident, the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Mrs. Ify Obinabo, who also visited the scene to make further inquiries, said the accounts and details obtained from some of the eyewitnesses at Aroma Junction clearly suggest that the circumstances that resulted to the lady’s strange acts were totally different from the popular narrative being peddled online.

According to the Commissioner, information obtained from reliable sources at the scene show that the lady’s condition might have spiritually stemmed from her natural or divine call as a person; and may not have any linkage with money ritual or Yahoo Boys, as is being unverifiably circulated on the social media.

Commissioner Obinabo said the sources she met on ground revealed to her that the lady, who was identified as a student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, was later rescued that day by her fellow students who identified her, mobilized to the scene with tricycle (Keke) and took her away for safety shortly after they saw the videos of her trending on social media.

Quoting the sources, the Commissioner said the students during the help and rescue operation that day at the scene, proved knowing the lady, and also confirmed that she had been periodically having such temporary strange challenge, probably indicating that she has a natural calling she’s yet to answer.

These clarifications were further corroborated by another revelation from the eyewitnesses at the Aroma Junction, who said that it was even from a public transport (NOT private vehicle) that the lady alighted before the incident started that day, contrary to the wrong and unverifiable narrative being peddled on the social media that she was pushed out from a private/Yahoo’s boys vehicle.

“From all that have been said and verified from different sources and eyewitnesses, you can see that what actually happened was totally a different story from what is being peddled online,” Commissioner Obinabo declared.

“…So, it is my advice that people should always verify things before circulating or before rushing to social media, to avoid adding to an existing problem or worsening an existing trauma,” she concluded, while also assuring to undertake further steps into the lady’s ordeal.

As at the time of this publication, this reporter, Izunna Okafor, is also advancing efforts to ascertain the current condition and the whereabouts of the lady.
