The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved the release of ₦121,948,995.00 for the supply and installation of formatted 10 NR 40-foot containers across multiple locations in the state to serve as temporary accommodation for security personnel.
The approval formed part of key resolutions reached at the Council’s second meeting of 2026 held on March 2 at the Light House, Awka.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, March 3, the State’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, disclosed that the contract for the temporary security accommodation project was awarded to Achufusi Ventures as part of efforts to strengthen operational logistics for security agencies in the state.
He said the Council also approved three major programmes for the swearing-in of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, and his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, for a second term in office.
According to the Commissioner, the events will commence with an interdenominational church service on Sunday, March 15; followed by the official swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, March 17; and conclude with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, March 22. He said the Council further set up subcommittees to ensure smooth coordination and execution of the ceremonies.
Beyond inauguration activities and security logistics, Commissioner?Mefor said ANSEC also evaluated what it described as progress in the state’s campaign for social and moral rebirth, welcoming the recent sentencing of native doctor Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Ọkụkọ Tiwara Akị, as well as the destruction of his shrine and Oke Ite pots. According to him, the Council reiterated that the state’s efforts are rooted in the Igbo philosophy that hard work remains the legitimate pathway to prosperity, which is the philosophy of “Aka aja aja na-ebute ọnụ mmanụ mmanụ.”
In another major decision, ANSEC declared that the refurbished and remodeled Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka (now regarded as an extension of the Light House Government complex) will no longer be available for private functions and shall henceforth be reserved strictly for government activities. The Council resolved that private events that were previously held at the Square are to be redirected to the multipurpose arena of the Awka Township Stadium, located just beside the Solution Fun City in Awka.
Council also approved several strategic infrastructure expenditures, including ₦164,396,750.11 as cost overrun on the construction of an IAAF standard five-lane track and natural grass pitch at Ekwulobia Stadium Complex; ₦72,628,864.59 for road marking and installation of thermoplastic speed bumps along the 10.043-kilometre Afor Nkpor–Eke Obosi Road; ₦172,192,325.77 for asphalt surfacing of the internal dual carriage driveway at the ICC Awka; and ₦175,388,731.57 for asphalt surfacing of the service lane leading to the State House of Assembly and the High Court Complex, Awka.
Dr. Mefor stated that these approvals reflect the Solution Government’s continued focus on strengthening security architecture, upgrading critical infrastructure, and consolidating massive developmental efforts as the administration prepares to commence a new term.
