Anambra governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo has surpassed the earlier 500-person target she set for her ongoing free organic seeds programme in the state.
Earlier today, the governor’s wife released 131 names of beneficiaries for the fourth batch of the programme, bringing the total of beneficiaries so far to 587.
Since 59 persons indicated interest in the free seeds for the first batch of the programme which was announced on July 7, 2024, the numbers have continued to skyrocket, with as many as 179 persons taking interest in the seeds in the second announcement by the governor’s wife.
Mrs Soludo had on July 4, 2024, announced that the free seeds programme, which was originally planned to be benefitted by just five hundred persons, was a way to celebrate her 54th birthday which comes up on the 31st of this month.
The Anambra first lady who is also the founder of the non-governmental crusade, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, stated that winners would be announced on her social media handles and other affiliated platforms every weekend until the end of July.
The governor’s wife added that seeing each garden do well across all the benefiting households would give her every sense of celebration that any birthday could present, and asked those who would be benefiting to carry out the task with dedication and excellence.
However, on July 16, Mrs Soludo made a new announcement to extend the deadline for the programme beyond the current date, citing increasing interests from people whom she would love to benefit from the gesture.
It is worthy to note that the Anambra governor’s wife is the first and only first lady in Nigeria to have carried out such programme in its current nature.
