The Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu has discharged nine inmates who were awaiting trial at Aguata Correctional Centre.

Those freed by the Chief Judge during his visit to the facility were Emeri Okeke, Chukwujekwu Okpara, Ogechi Onyeanusi, Innocent Chukwuma, Ejike Orji, Chiemelie Nwosu, Saledu Mohammed, Ogochukwu Ezeagba and Chinecherem Orjiakor.

Justice Anyachebelu explained that he released them on the grounds that the complainants of the cases concerning the inmates have abandoned them and continuing their prosecution has become unconscionable.

Justice Anyachebelu also granted bail to two inmates at the facility, Nnamdi Anenegbu and Nnamdi Okoli who were remanded in the correctional centre for alleged armed robbery offence and murder.

In his reaction, the Deputy Controller of Aguata Correctional Centre, Mr Michael Orjiakor noted that Justice Anyachebelu has decongested the facility through his kind gesture and advised those he freed to be of good behaviour.
