Alleged Falsehood: Former Imo Gov. Ohakim Speaks On Exposing Alleged Anyanwu Apology To Abacha In New Book

Sharing is caring

Former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, has escalated his dispute with former Senator Chris Anyanwu, accusing her of withholding an apology letter she allegedly wrote to the late military ruler, General Sani Abacha. Ohakim has vowed to include the contentious letter in his forthcoming book to counter what he describes as “misleading accounts” in Anyanwu’s recently published memoir, Bold Leap.

The rift deepened after Ohakim, in a recent interview, alleged that Anyanwu omitted crucial facts from her book, including the supposed apology to Abacha, despite benefiting from the military regime. In response, Anyanwu challenged him to produce evidence of the letter, a challenge Ohakim interpreted as tacit acknowledgment of its existence.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Amanze Ajoku, Ohakim criticized Anyanwu for what he termed “deliberate distortions” of history, particularly regarding her narrative about his tenure and the 2011 Imo governorship election. He also accused her of leveraging her media platform at the time to propagate falsehoods about him.

Ohakim remarked: “It is baffling that Mrs. Christiana Anyanwu could author a 612-page book yet conveniently omit her apology to Abacha. Nigerians are discerning enough to recognize hypocrisy when they see it.”

He further alleged that Anyanwu’s history is marred by strained relationships with associates, including family, colleagues, and political allies.

Ohakim reiterated his intention to use his upcoming book to clarify historical inaccuracies, defend his legacy, and publish the alleged letter as evidence.

The escalating clash between the two has reignited public discussions about historical accountability and the manipulation of political narratives, with neither party willing to relent in their claims.
