Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa and Kenneth Omeruo are set to make history by becoming the first two Nigerians to win the Africa Cup of Nations title twice.
Musa and Omeruo were members of the Super Eagles side that won the prestigious title at the AFCON 2013 finals hosted by South Africa.
The Super Eagles will square up against the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the AFCON 2023 on Sunday.
Victory in the game will see the duo cement their names in the annals of Nigerian football.
The likes of Austine Jay Jay Okocha, Finidi George, Mutiu Adepoju, Daniel Amokachi, Emmanuel Amuneke, Sunday Oliseh and Victor Ikpeba all came close to achieving the feat on home soil in 2000 but their hopes were dented by perennial rivals, Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
All the listed players were part of the team that won the AFCON 1994 finals in Tunisia but were denied the chance of another winner’s medal by Cameroon six years later.
The Indomitable Lions won the pulsating final 5-4 on penalties at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Omeruo has made five appearances for Nigeria at AFCON 2023, while Musa is yet to feature for the three-time champions.
