Fear and panic have gripped the residents of Ndagbo Afara in Umuahia North LGA, Abia State, following a gruesome tragedy in which a mentally unstable man, identified as Ibekwe Augustine James, murdered his sister, Chinomso Nwabali James, and her four-year-old twin children, Moses and Marvelous Chris.
The horrific incident took place on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Reports indicate that the suspect launched a violent attack on his sister and her children before burying the twins in a shallow grave within their family compound. A family member later caught him attempting to dispose of Chinomso’s lifeless body, but he managed to escape before he could be stopped.
The Abia State Police Command has assured the public that an intensive manhunt is underway, but fear lingers among locals, who worry that the suspect may return. Many have called on the government and security agencies to ensure his swift capture before more harm is done.
Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, advised families to seek professional medical care for relatives with mental health issues rather than leaving them unsupervised. She reaffirmed that law enforcement is doing everything possible to apprehend the fugitive and bring him to justice.
