The District Head of Gatawa in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Isa Bawa, has been killed by his abductors after a delay in delivering the ransom.

According to Almustapha Boza, the lawmaker representing Sabon Birni North in the State House of Assembly, a team sent to deliver the ransom found Bawa’s corpse, and only returned with his son who was also abducted.

The ransom, which included N60 million and brand new motorcycles, was agreed upon, but the delivery was delayed due to specifications of the motorcycles demanded by the bandits.

Unfortunately, the bandits did not contact the negotiators as expected, and Bawa was killed before the ransom could be delivered.

We have gotten the motorcycles today but unfortunately, the bandits did not call the person they were communicating with. They normally call twice in a day; 8 am and 5 pm but today, they have not called throughout.”

The 74-year-old monarch had earlier appealed for help in a video message, asking the Sokoto State Government and well-wishers to come to his rescue.

He was kidnapped alongside his son, brother, and six others along the Sokoto-Sabon Birni Road.
