Anambra State contingent to the 8th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) has finished 8th on the Medals’ Table with a total of 26 medals.
Team Anambra at the games matched their previous record of 7 Gold, 6 Silver and 12 Bronze medals and set a new record at the games with 9 Gold, 9 Silver and 8 Bronze medals. Delta State, host of the eighth National Youth Games retained the title topping the chart with 48 gold, 31 silver and 34 bronze totalling 111 medals.
Lagos State came second on the log with 26 Gold, 20 Silver and 19 Bronze totaling 65 medals while Team Edo came third with 18 Gold, 13 Silver and 28 Bronze medals totalling 59 medals.
Reacting after the games, The Chairman, Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASSDC), Patrick Estate Onyedum thanked God for the success story recorded at the games with the new record by the state contingent.
The ASSDC boss eulogized the athletes and team officials for their efforts, dedication and perseverance in achieving the feat which he described as remarkable while promising that the state will work on bettering their performance in the next outing as well as working on the male athletes as majority of the medals were won by the female athletes.
Onyedum commended Gov. Soludo for his immense support to sports development in the state with approvals of the programs of the ASSDC and nod to feature at Inter State Sporting Activities/ Competition.
Team Anambra who were at the games with 124 athletes and 47 officials featured in 18 sporting events.
