Ebonyi State First Lady Officially Launches BERWO Initiative.

The First Lady of Ebonyi State, Chief Mrs Uzoamaka Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru, has launched her first pet project, ‘Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Foundation’ (BERWO).

The event which took place in the state’s capital looked promising as influential people around the country were in attendance to show support.

The First Ladies of Imo, Ogun and Cross River States were present to applaud their colleague, while the VVF initiator and former First Lady of the State, Chief Mrs. Josephine Nwuzor Elechi, alongside wife of the immediate past Deputy Governor, Chief Mrs. Nnenna Ethel Igwe.

They honored the invitation of Her Excellency, Chief Mrs Uzoamaka Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru, to help hold her shoulders high, in delivering her modest pet project, ‘Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Foundation’ (BERWO).

His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, could not contain the joy and satisfaction he had at the preparedness of BERWO in assisting his administration to succeed.
He promised full support for the program and appreciated his wife for her dedication and consistency of character.

The project upheld the Section 7 of The People’s Charter of Needs:
a. Increase in women participation in politics and governance.

b. Prohibition of Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
c. Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
d. Promotion of Free maternal and child health care.
e. Support girl child education.

The foundation known as “Better Health for Rural Women, Children Internally Displaced Persons (BERWO), will solely cater to developing potentials in Ebonyi women, and the youths at large.


BERWO will focus on ‘multi-purpose youth hub, improved healthcare services for women, children and youth, reduction of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) cases, empowerment for women and youths, supporting the internally displaced persons and persons with disability, and work with other partners within and outside Ebonyi State, to identify funding opportunities, all meant for the improvement of the lives of our women, children and youths.’
