The All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to capture Anambra State in the 2025 governorship election, employing the same strategy that secured their victory in Edo State on September 21.
At the APC Headquarters in Abuja, National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje urged party members to replicate their Edo State success in Anambra, describing it as a “project that must be executed.”
This call to action came during the winding down of the situation room at the NWC hall.
The 2025 Anambra Governorship election, scheduled for October or November, will see incumbent Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) contesting for a second term.
APC’s determination to win the election is driven by their desire to bring Anambra to the centre and promote regional balance.
With Edo State as a model, APC hopes to replicate their winning formula and make inroads in the South East region.
“We must work together to ensure victory in Anambra,” Ganduje stressed, adding “Our party’s presence in the South East is crucial for national unity and progress.”
He further said,”Next year, Anambra state will follow. Let me remind you that we have a project which we named political demarginalisation of South East geo-political zone.
“That project is also a task that must be done. We will face South East zone with 5 states. We already have 2, but 2 is too small for a big party like ours. We will face that state and see how we can recover many states in our favour,” Ganduje said.
APC leaders are confident that their strategy will yield positive results, citing the party’s growing popularity in the region.
Reacting to APC’s plans, Prof Soludo’s aide (name withheld ) described the move as “desperate” and “unlikely to succeed”.
“Anambra people will not be swayed by empty promises,” the aide said, stressing “Governor Soludo’s achievements will speak for themselves.”
Meanwhile, APC stakeholders in Anambra State have welcomed Ganduje’s call to action.
“We are ready to work tirelessly to deliver Anambra to APC,” said Chief Basil Ejidike, APC Anambra State Chairman.
“The APC’s push for Anambra State could have significant implications for the region’s politics and national balance.
“A victory would bolster the party’s presence in the South East, potentially altering the regional political landscape,” Ejidike maintained.
