11 Regain Freedom, Seven Granted Bail At Medium Security Custodial Center Awka

11 inmates who have spent between two to six years awaiting trial at Medium Security Custodial Center Awka have regained freedom and seven others granted bail as Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, concludes this year’s jail delivery exercise.

Speaking after his clients, including one Mr. Ernest Nwakama; who has spent six years in detention was discharged and others, including Chinecherem Nwoye, granted bail, Barrister Chinedu Nwankwo, who said he appeared for them at no cost; as a way of giving back to the society, thanked the Chief Judge for doing justice in the cases.

Speaking after the court proceedings, Justice Anyachebelu explained that the routine visit was to examine and review cases of inmates who are not going to court over a reasonable time, inmates with serious health challenges, among others, and commended cleanliness and orderliness observed at the facility.

Deputy Comptroller of Corrections and officer-in-charge of the Medium Security Custodial Center Awka, Barrister Raymond Nwankwo, advised those freed to use the skills they acquired at the facility to become more useful to themselves and the society.
