We’ve Paid 3000 Imo Pensioners’ Gratuities Since Monday – Uzodimma

The Governor of Imo state, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has disclosed to Imo workers that 3000 Pensioners owed their gratuities since 2006 have been fully paid 100% of their gratuities as at April 30, 2024.

The Governor disclosed this at Ndubuisi Kanu Square Owerri the state capital while addressing the state workers who were at the venue to mark this year’s international worker’s day.


“By yesterday, 3000 people were paid and we paid 100%. By this morning all the permanent secretaries that retired since 2006 have been paid and they were paid 100%.” declared the governor to the joyous workers.


The Governor however informed the workers that there is a delay in paying the remaining gratutities because of irregular and inconsistent biodata of the said people and promised to engage them in verification to ensure timely payment.


The Governor promised that any of the affected persons who could prove with their records and biodata of meritiing being paid will be paid without any delay.


“There is a hold on the remaining payments because some of you know and I know that there are people who inflated their records.


” As anxious as I am to pay this gratutity, we must get it right and should allow these to be a drain pipe to government revenue” said the governor.


Earlier in his speech, the governor reminded the workers that their welfare has always been a priority to him as their governor which he related to be the reason the workers would never ask or go on strike for him to act on things that will making their working conditions better.


The Governor went on memory lane reminding the workers that they never went on any strike or made any demand before he gave them free transportation scheme since 3 years ago, that he was never reminded by the workers before he enrolled them into free health insurance, prompt payment of their salaries and other goodies his administration has handed over to the workers and equally promised that the workers will never remind him or go on strike before he will implement the minimum wage which the tripatite committee will be recommending in few weeks or months to come as he promised to be the first in the country to implement it.
