The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Olalere Oyewumi, has graciously donated N1 million to Iwo United FC for winning the coveted grand trophy of the SmartCity Osun State Football League. He acknowledged the role of youths in his grassroots support system, urging the football team to consider him as one of them. At a brief reception organized for the winning team at Executive Hotel and Lounge Iwo, the legislator expressed his deep love for the team’s determination and team spirit that earned them the top spot throughout the state.
Senator Oyewumi told the team that his love for sports was unparalleled, charging them to keep training and working hard in order to expand their success. “I am delighted by the kind of unity you cultivated throughout the competition. The most important skill for any football team is unity of purpose on and off the pitch,” Senator Oyewumi said. “Count your win as a latest addition to your past success and a validation of your effort; you are capable of winning more. For me, I believe this is a tip of the iceberg.”
The senator seized the moment to highlight some of his achievements in the past year and a few months. “In order to keep you up to date about my programs, let me inform you that we have facilitated the construction of roads where they were most needed in our communities, constructed classrooms with modern boreholes, acquired and installed transformers, and procured and installed over 10,000 integrated solar lights in all the 10 Local Governments. We are facilitating secure jobs for our youths and cooperating with security agencies to better protect us,” he explained.
“Iwo is the political headquarters of our district, and we are working towards attracting the necessary facilities that will bring it up to speed with that status. I can assure you that a dualized road project will be completed in Iwo before Governor Ademola Adeleke finishes his first term.”
The Team Captain praised Senator Oyewumi for his inclusive vision and expressed their appreciation for his kind support. Comrade Dauda Abimbola, a veteran sportsman himself who decisively raised the team, conveyed the team’s remarks to the senator. “We are deeply honored by your invaluable support and openness. You kept in touch with us as we participated in the competition from January to June when we defeated Elebubon FC,” he said.
“Thank you, and we do not take your words of encouragement lightly. It will continue to illuminate our path going forward, and we will be reminded that we have great support in you at any time. Aside from being a political representative of our district, you are a versatile community leader loved by many. We appreciate you, and we pray God will empower you to fulfill your responsibility to our people.”
