Rotimi Amaechi
Former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, has stated that he usually discourages Nigerians from relocating abroad.
According to him, the only job opportunities in foreign countries for Nigerians are usually nine-to-five jobs whereas, in Nigeria, someone can just wake up and become a minister, a Senator, or a Governor.” The Minister stated this during a TV interview.
In his words; ‘’I have always discouraged those who want to leave the country. You can always get a 9-5 job when you leave the country but you can never get the opportunity you will get in Nigeria. You can just wake up one day and become a Minister in Nigeria, a governor. It just happens. I don’t know how this country operates. If you are looking for opportunities, please stay back in Nigeria”
The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, says it is worrisome that the older generation is refusing to leave the scene for the younger generation. Onaiyekan, who is a former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, said this at the presentation of a book titled, ‘Dignity in Service.
