Sharing is caring

Plateau State Environmental Protection And Sanitation Agency, (PEPSA), says it is dedicated to reducing open defecation and sought to enlist the church community’s influence and resources in this crucial effort.

PEPSA however, visits The Headquarters Of The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Plateau State today. This visit aimed to seek the support of churches in the campaign against open defecation.

During the visit, PEPSA’s Director General, Samuel Dapiya, emphasized the importance of churches supporting the construction of proper toilet facilities and preaching against open defecation. He highlighted the role of proper sanitation in reducing the spread of cholera and other diseases in the state.

The Director General encouraged churches to take ownership of the campaign and urged their members to do the same. Recognizing the significant influence of spiritual leaders, he stressed the importance of their advocacy in changing community behaviors and attitudes towards sanitation.

He also discussed the need to maintain clean drainages around church facilities and ensure access to waste bins for members. These measures are vital for supporting a healthier environment and preventing the spread of diseases.

The CAN Chairman, Very Rev Fr Polycarp Lubo, assured PEPSA of CAN’s full support. Rev Fr Lubo noted that the church has already taken steps in this direction and committed to urging all churches to implement these sanitation efforts on their premises and in their members’ homes. He assured PEPSA that letters would be circulated to address the issues raised and galvanize church members into action.

This partnership marks a crucial collaboration between PEPSA and The Church Community in Plateau State, united in the goal of creating a cleaner, healthier environment for all. Our objective is to inform and educate the people before enforcement begins, ensuring widespread awareness and participation.

Noted that Together, we can significantly reduce open defecation and enhance public health in our communities. Your efforts and support make a difference”, he noted.
