Paris Olympics: Nigerian Boxer Cynthia Ogunsemilore Banned Over Doping Violation

Cynthia Ogunsemilore, a Nigerian boxer, has been suspended from the Paris Olympics after testing positive for the banned substance furosemide.

The International Testing Agency (ITA) announced the suspension on Saturday, citing an adverse analytical finding from a sample collected on Thursday.

Ogunsemilore, 22, was set to make her Olympic debut on Monday in the under 60 kg category but will no longer be able to participate due to the provisional suspension.

She has the right to challenge the suspension at the Court of Arbitration and request an analysis of the B sample.

Furosemide is classified as a diuretic and masking agent by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and its use is prohibited in competition.

Ogunsemilore’s suspension is a significant blow to Nigeria’s boxing team at the Paris Olympics.
