Former Aviation Minister and ex-FRSC Boss, Chief Osita Chidoka, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for adopting a similar approach to former President Muhammadu Buhari in promoting Nigeria.
During an announcement, Tinubu assured the global business community that his administration would take decisive action against any unethical or dishonest behavior that could undermine investors’ trust in the country’s economy.
Tinubu went on to urge Qatari business leaders to expose Nigerian officials who might demand bribes before allowing them to conduct business in the country. He also emphasized that Nigeria would no longer be hindered by outdated corruption and bureaucratic obstacles that made doing business challenging.
In response to Tinubu’s speech, Chidoka expressed his disappointment at Tinubu’s decision to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor in tarnishing the nation’s image.
During a national TV appearance analyzing the state of the nation, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain voiced his concerns. He stated, ‘It was an unfortunate statement. I was shocked and embarrassed that he was continuing Buhari’s approach of devaluing Nigeria.
‘I think this gap arises when there is poor briefing from government agencies. I don’t really blame the President. I hold the Minister of Information and Foreign Affairs responsible for the government’s messaging.
‘There are many Nigerians who won’t ask for bribes or cause trouble. The individuals who might request a bribe are in the minority. The President’s role is to promote Nigeria, to be the chief spokesperson and advocate for our country.
‘The government needs to have a clear message, like being pro-investment and aiming to attract foreign exchange. Our mission should be to present a positive image of Nigeria’
