Sharing is caring

Leaders and citizens of Orumba North Local Government Area (LGA) convened yesterday at the Marble Arch Hotel in Awka for a crucial security summit, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to a safer and more secure community. The summit, spearheaded by Barrister Casmir Chukwunonso Nwafor (Rtd Captain), Executive Chairman of Orumba North, served as a platform for open dialogue, strategic planning, and a unified call to action.

Chairman Nwafor, drawing upon his experience in both law and security, opened the summit by underscoring the urgency of the situation. “Security is not a luxury, but a fundamental human right,” he stated. “It is the very foundation upon which meaningful development can occur. Anambra State and Nigeria are brimming with potential, but we must cultivate a secure environment for that potential to flourish.”

Recognizing that security is a collective responsibility, Mayor Nwafor called for active participation from all segments of society. He urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, parents, teachers, and community leaders to guide youth towards productive paths, strengthen community bonds, and collaborate closely with law enforcement. “Silence in the face of injustice is not an option,” he declared. “We must stand together and raise our voices against insecurity.”

Chairman Nwafor outlined the government’s commitment to enhancing security, commending Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s proactive approach in Anambra State and affirming Orumba North’s alignment with the Governor’s vision. He detailed plans to bolster the local vigilante group, establish CCTV surveillance, and procure essential security equipment, including vehicles, motorcycles, and communication devices.

However, Mayor Nwafor emphasized that security measures alone are not enough. “We must also address the root causes of insecurity,” he asserted, outlining his administration’s commitment to investing in:

Agriculture: Creating sustainable livelihoods through mechanized farming initiatives.

Education: Empowering youth with knowledge and skills to resist criminal activity.

Sports: Providing positive outlets for youthful energy and promoting teamwork.

Youth and Women Empowerment: Creating opportunities for economic independence and self-reliance.

“The road ahead may present challenges,” Mayor Nwafor acknowledged, “but I am confident that with our collective will and determination, we will build a safe, prosperous, and vibrant Orumba North for ourselves and future generations.”

The summit featured insightful presentations from key figures. Brigadier General Arinze Ebenebe (Rtd) delivered a comprehensive lecture on security techniques and the importance of collaboration between citizens and law enforcement. Chief Hon. Ken Emeakai, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, emphasized the crucial role of community involvement in identifying and reporting criminal elements. He challenged President Generals to take a more proactive stance in securing their communities and advocated for future summits to be held within Orumba North, demonstrating a commitment to local action.

Chief Ernest Ezeajughi, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Anambra State, representing the Governor, urged citizens to promptly report security threats to law enforcement agencies. Chief Fred Aforka, a North American-based indigene of Orumba North, pledged support for infrastructure development, contingent upon transparent governance.

A dynamic question-and-answer session allowed for direct engagement between stakeholders and security experts, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges and potential solutions. The summit concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and a shared commitment to building a safer Orumba North.
