Few days after the celebration of 64th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria, well meaning individuals of the country have continued to express their views on the journey.
Among them was the Senior Pastor incharge of the End Time Ambassadors International Assembly, Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Reverend Elvis Okolie, who called on the ethnic nationalities of the county to come together to agree or disagree on the future of Nigeria.
Reverend Okolie, made the call, during press interview in Awka and remarked that before the advent of the white men in this part of the world in 1950s that the people were living peacefully.
“Looking at the nation’s environmental development indices and how the lives of Nigeria were at 64 years of the country, Reverend Okolie, wondered how Nigerian should leave their country to abroad in search of greener pastures.
“Look at the public sector, the institution, our institution are weak, corruption everywhere, inflation is at run away level and people cannot feed”, he said.
” The worst part of it now is that people, cannot move, if they want to move, they have to park their vehicles because they cannot afford to fuel them to go where they want to go.
He added that, if the people want to make use of the light and if it happened that they were in band “A” that their salary would not be enough for them to pay for what they had used in a month.
“Look at the cost of a bag of rice, we were shouting when it was #70,000,now is above #100,000 and what is the minimum wage”,he asked.
Reverend Okolie, who double as public analyst, maintained that the current Nigerian environment at 64 years is forcing Nigerians to turn to criminals because if one wants to survive,he must commit crime, arguing that averagely, the people cannot meet up today in Nigeria base on what they earn monthly.
“You cannot meet up, so many civil servants have been forced by the circumstances to be criminals by abusing their offices.
He looked at the police and the military formations of the country, the defenders of our nation, assuring that there are good police officers, but argued that they cannot meet up with their daily responsibilities, calling on the people to careful listen to the military men as some of them are crying bitterly due to the weak organization they found themselves in the country.
“If your walls are weak, you cannot go to war, talkless of fighting the weakest person, if you are not one, let me tell you, the smallest country in Africa can defeat this country,” the Reverend, opined”.
According to the Cleric, the reasons were very simple because, there are agitations here and there in the country, stating that nobody wants to be a true Nigerian, rather we have what he called tribesmen and in the most cases, the ones the great philosophers, called idiots, who are just good for nothing, order than destruction.
“Greatest percentage is i am an Igbo Man, i am an Yoruba man, an Hausa, Fulani man, it is my turn, is our turn, nobody wants to look at Nigeria as Nigeria, everybody is looking at Nigeria from his own angle”
The man of God, noted that it is high time, the people should understand themselves by trying their best to ensure that they cool the war of division anchored on tribes, religion and rest of others in the country, even among the Christendom where the Catholics, Anglicans and the Pentecostans disagree among themselves.
While saying that the present realities in Nigeria today had failed the people, the Senior Pastor, identified problem of leadership as one of the major problem of the country, highlighting the importance of respecting the social contract theory between the leaders and the leds in the country.
He pointed out that the fabric foundation of the country had been contaminated with virus, questioning the whereabouts of the state men of the country as well as the founding fathers such as the likes of late Dr.Nnamdi Azikiwes,Ahmadu Bello’s Awolowos, whom he said that even on their own times, not with standing, but at least were able to reason together and fight a common front and get something the bequeathed to the present generations of Nigeria.
“How are we managing those things they bequeathed to us?.The young ones have done those things expected of them to find themselves in the corridors of power to right the wrongs, but the opportunities were not giving to them,”he emphasized.
He recalled that, the other day, people were talking about the citizenship and wondered how the people could talk about it in a situation where the system had weakened them, questioning who was in the instrument of power in the present day Nigeria were the people, heeding to the detects of the social contract theory had surrendered their rights to be managed by the leaders.
The Pastor, who spoke among other things, assured, that if Nigerians could seat together and agree that they want to live as a nation by putting terms and conditions down on how they could live together ,that lasting peace would automatically return in Nigeria.
According to him,the regional Government, recently proposed by the President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s administration in the country was the best way to go, stressing that, if the regional government could be achieved, that it would bring lasting solution to the myriad of problems facing the country over the years.
