Nigerian Police Invite Labour Congress President for Questioning Over Terrorism Financing and Treason

Sharing is caring

The Nigerian Police Force has invited Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), for investigation over allegations of terrorism financing, treasonable felony, cybercrime, and other related offenses.

The invitation comes after the recent raid on the NLC headquarters and criticism from the union over the police’s handling of a protest.

Ajaero is required to report to the Intelligence Response Team on August 20, 2024, at 10:00 hrs, or face a warrant of arrest.

The NLC has linked the invitation to their criticism of the police and government’s actions, and has challenged the police to provide proof of any wrongdoing.

In a statement, NLC’s Head of Communications, Benson Upah, expressed outrage at the police’s behavior and demanded an apology.

The union has maintained that it was not involved in the protest and had advised the government to engage in dialogue with the organizers.
