The Nigerian Official Selection Committee for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has called on filmmakers to submit their feature films for consideration in the International Feature Film category of the 97th annual Academy Awards.
The submission portal will be open from August 1 to August 30, 2024.
The committee, led by actress and filmmaker Stephanie Linus, has also announced new members, including Ali Nuhu, Blessing Egbe, Ijeoma Agu, Kene Okwuosa, and Victor Akande.
The International Feature Film award is open to feature-length motion pictures produced outside the United States with 50% or more non-English dialogue. Submitted films must meet specific criteria, including English subtitles, shooting formats, and theatrical release.
This year’s Oscars ceremony is scheduled for March 2, 2025, in Los Angeles, California.
Nigeria has submitted films in the past, including “Lionheart,” “Milkmaid,” and “Mami Wata,” but has yet to receive a nomination.
