Nigerian House of Representatives member, Bello El-Rufai, has been caught in a lie after denying receiving a luxury vehicle from the National Assembly.
Despite initially claiming to have declined the vehicle, evidence has revealed that he did, in fact, receive a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
This contradicts his earlier statement and raises questions about his sincerity.
El-Rufai, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency and serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Banking Regulations, had claimed in a podcast interview that he and some colleagues had rejected the vehicles.
However, a document obtained by SaharaReporters shows that he received the vehicle in October 2023.
This is not the first time El-Rufai’s denial has been questioned.
In March, a leaked internal memo from the Nigerian House of Representatives contradicted his claim, stating that every member of the 10th House of Representatives had received their vehicle.
The controversy surrounding El-Rufai’s denial has raised concerns about his honesty and transparency. As a public servant, he is expected to be truthful and accountable to the people he represents.
His actions have caused disaffection and brought the image of the parliament to disrepute.
