In a commitment to ensure that even the most vulnerable in Imo State receive quality healthcare, the Imo State Health Insurance Agency (IMSHIA) has intervened in a case involving a severely ill child, Amarachi Gift Nkuche, from Akabo, Ikeduru Local Government Area. The child, who has lived for over a year without medical care due to extreme poverty, was brought to the agency’s office in Owerri by her mother, Mrs. Gift Nkuche.
Upon assessing the child’s condition, IMSHIA immediately enrolled both Amarachi and her mother into the state’s health insurance program, an initiative championed by Governor Hope Uzodimma, to ensure they receive urgent and comprehensive medical care.
Mrs. Nkuche, the mother, recounted her struggles in accessing healthcare for her child since birth, citing financial difficulties that prevented her from seeking medical attention. She learned about the free healthcare services at IMSHIA through other market women at Ekeonunwa Market, where she was selling vegetables to support her family.
After carefully reviewing the child’s critical health needs, Dr. Uchenna Ewelike, the Executive Secretary/CEO of IMSHIA, ordered an immediate referral to New Healing Stream Specialist Hospital, where both mother and child are now receiving treatment from a team of specialists.
Dr. Ewelike emphasized that such interventions align with the health financial risk protection agenda of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma. This initiative is dedicated to providing Ndi-Imo access to affordable, high-quality healthcare services, ensuring no Imo resident faces financial hardship while seeking essential health services
