The six thousand capacity new Cathedral building of the Catholic Diocese of Abalaliki is in progress at the Ochudo Centenary City.
Speaking at the Ground Breaking ceremony, the Governor of Ebonyi Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru commented it has become imperative to build a befitting place of worship for God.
” I am very delighted to be here to perform this historic function . One thing is to conceive an idea, the other is to have people who can agree with the idea. I have always said I like Catholic church because they take time to train their priests and that makes them to always reason deeply and act wisely . I spoke about this building in the church without consulting the Bishop who is the spiritual Leader of the Church, and if it were some churches, he would have queried it but he agreed with my idea.”.
The Governor commended the church for ensuring spiritual growth of the people and assured that he will not relent in supporting the church to realize the building project.
In his remarks, Most Rev Dr Peter Nworie Chukwu, the Catholic Bishop of Abalaliki Diocese said the ceremony is part of activities lined up for the Golden Jubilee of the Diocese.
He extolled the Governor for his support to the church since he assumed office.
“On the day we had our ordination at the Cathedral, the Governor made a pronouncement and he has followed it up , am so grateful to him. I am grateful to the Governor , Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and former Governor Martin Elechi, the government of Ebonyi State and other leaders of the State for believing that God should be given a pride of place.
“If you build for God , you will receive blessings , when you build a temple for God he will build you a lasting home ” the Bishop said.
