The burial committee has announced the funeral rites for Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the former governor of old Abia State, who passed away on April 11, 2024, at the age of 73.
The burial is scheduled to take place on November 8, 2024, in Uburu, Ohaozara LGA, Ebonyi State.
The funeral rites will begin with a Night of Tributes at the Musa Yar’ Adua Centre, Abuja, on November 4, 2024, followed by a requiem mass at the Church of Assumption, Asokoro, Abuja, on November 5.
The program will then shift to Abia State, where Onu’s body will lie in state at the Abia State Executive Council Chambers on November 6, followed by a Day of Tributes at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.
The lying-in-state will continue in Ebonyi State on November 7, followed by a requiem mass and wake in his village, Uburu.
The burial will conclude with a funeral service and interment at Uburu on November 8 at 11 am.
Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu was a renowned engineer, author, and politician who served as the first elected civilian governor of Abia State and played a key role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He was also a former Minister of Science and Technology and recipient of the national honor of Commander of the Order of Niger (CON).
