~ Demand For Made In Nigeria Vehicles For Easy Maintenance And Economic Development.
The Enugu State House of Assembly Members are currently protesting against the purchase of JETOUR vSUV worth about 40m as official vehicle for the honourable members after budgeting 85m for Toyota Prado Jeep because of its durability, efficiency and manageability.
The protesting lawmakers observed that the proper thing the Governor would have done if what was budgeted could not afford it, was to get back to the house for downward review, specifying the new brand of vehicle for the honourable members.
The lawmakers lamented that they have been cooperative and supportive of the governor’s agenda, wondering why he could be treating them with much disdain, when himself is using four(4) expensive vehicles he recently acquired; Two Prado Land Cruiser worth 250m, two bullet proof Lexus Jeep worth 1.1billion, cumulating to 1.350b( One Billion Three Hundred and Fifty Million Naira).
How could the governor distribute JETOUR SUV rejected by Ebonyi State House of Assembly Members to Enugu State House of Assembly Members, they queried in anger?
The honourable members further lamented that JETOUR SUV purchased for the honourable members is not maintainable, not durable, not manageable, due to the non availability of the spare parts and mechanics too.
The lawmakers demanded for Nigeria Made SUV ( Innosson Made) as the best alternative to Toyota Prado Jeep due to its durability, efficiency and manageability, beside the economic benefits to Nigeria in terms of job creation, promotion of indigenous factory and impact on the state GDP.
The honorable members are entitled to official vehicles to facilitate their work and it has been provided for in the budget and assented to by the Governor, any change of such should be brought back to the house of assembly for review, Mbah’s action is arbitrary and disrespectful to the assembly, they noted.
The honorable members also decried the Governor’s high-handedness and disregard for the Enugu State House of Assembly, noting that Governors of other States have given vehicles, land and constituency project to the state assemblies members but in Enugu, no travel for the honorable members, no official vehicle, no land, no constituency project, yet the house has been approving everything for him, including 80billion supplementary budget and 170bbillion loan immediately he assumed office but he has done absolutely nothing for the honourable members. It is very unfortunate and sad.
Official vehicle for honourable members is a matter of right not gift and their best interest should be factored in purchasing such official vehicle, the lawmakers concluded.
