Justice Kyrian Nwankpa (retd.), the Abia government’s ombudsman, says he will enthrone administrative and social justice as an integral part of governance.
Mr Nwankpa made the promise at a news briefing at the Government House, Umuahia, on Thursday, adding that his job focuses on providing a platform for the people to report any violation of rights or abuse of power or office by public office holders.
He said his ultimate goal was to ensure that the aim of establishing the office was not defeated.
He said he would be assisting the governor in receiving and reviewing complaints from the public and making recommendations after investigations for appropriate actions to be taken.
Mr Nwankpa said he had started receiving complaints and was already working on them.
He urged the people to utilise the ombudsman’s services to seek redress over their alleged rights violations for justice. He also urged individuals and groups to come up with genuine complaints, not frivolous ones.
He commended the governor for establishing the office and promised to actualise its mandate.
Mr Nwankpa said he was appointed as an ombudsman to function as part of the governor’s office.
According to him, the office is not a public complaints commission, even though he would be handling public complaints.
