The French Club of Mater Amabilis Secondary School Umuoji has organized “La Journée Française” (French Day), an event aimed at promoting the importance of learning and teaching French in schools.
The event, themed “Apprenons Le Français” (Let’s Learn French), brought together students, teachers from various secondary schools, who shared a common interest in French language and culture.
The Manager, Mater Amabilis Umuoji, Reverend Father Francis Onwuchulum in his address, said learning French will enrich the lives of students and broaden their perspectives, hence, the reason for the French Day celebration.
“We’re proud to share our passion for French language and culture with our school community, and we believe that learning French will enrich our lives and broaden our perspectives.” Fr. Onwuchulum.
In her address, Chairman of the Occasion, and Head of the French Department at Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, Mrs Nchedo Okeke, said learning French offers numerous opportunities and helps for future career advancement, cultural exchange, and global understanding.
“The ability to speak French opens doors to new possibilities, including education, employment, and cultural exchange programmess. As a nation, we must recognize the importance of linguistic diversity and encourage our young people to develop proficiency in languages such as French.” She said.
The Coordinator, Mater Amabilis French Club, Mr. Onyebuchi Udichi encouraged students to continue exploring the benefits of learning French: “French is not just a language, it enhances, career. so let’s continue to learn, explore, and celebrate the richness of French language and culture”.
The event featured a range of activities, including French language competitions, cultural performances, and exhibitions showcasing French art and literature.
