Indigenes Of Nawfia Show Support for Igwe Obelle And Union Executives

Sharing is caring

The traditional ruler of Nawfia community in Anambra State, Igwe Dr. Daniel Ogochukwu Obelle, along with the President General of Nawfia Progressive Union (NPU), Mr. Daniel Okoye, and other executive members of the union, have received a vote of confidence from the indigenes of Nawfia.

The indigenes expressed their support during a solidarity rally held at the Nawfia Civic Center on February 1, 2024. The rally was in response to a recent High Court judgment in favor of the past President General, Sir Nathan Enemuo, whose tenure expired in April 2022.

The people of Nawfia community voiced concerns that the return of Sir Enemuo would lead to burning of buildings, insecurity, land grabbing, violence against women, unnecessary killings, and other atrocities in the town. They made requests, including the exclusion of Sir Nathan Enemuo, their preference for the leadership of Daniel Okoye, and a plea to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for assistance.

The absence of a peaceful town union is seen as a threat to the development, peace, and harmony that the community has enjoyed over the past twenty-two months. It also hinders the town’s representation at local and state government levels.

Sir Enemuo and his group have been obstructing the functioning of the town union members elected by the community two years ago.
